Scientific name: Bertholletia excelsa

Origin: Brazil- Amazon region

Tree characteristics: large tree that can reach up to 50m in height and 2m in diameter at the base. Smooth trunk, branching only on its upper portion. Dark and cracked bark, reduced color. Shiny, wavy, dark green leaves. It has aromatic, yellow-white flowers appearing from November to February.

Fruit: it is characteristically a spherical capsule, with a thick surface and dark brown color. When ripen, it releases the seeds by breaking its lower portion. It has 14 to 24 seeds inside, wrapped in yellow pulp. They ripen from December to March. It has up to 67% oil, obtained by pressing the seed, later filtering and oil refining.

Cultivation: the seeds, seedlings or grafts are planted in deep pits and well-fertilized soil in the rainy season. They prefer regions with hot and humid climate.

Properties: Slightly yellow oil, rich in oleic acid and vitamins. It forms a film on the skin tissue, preventing the loss of transepidermal water. It promotes long-lasting hydration with dry and smooth touch.
